Tales of Teyvat, a Genshin Lore Podcast

Episode 20: The Cataclysm

SEASON ONE

Every episode our team will work to provide you with visual and video aids to help you better understand comparisons and what we’re talking about.

Below are some resources surrounding what we discussed about The Cataclysm that may be helpful to better understand this week’s lore:

The Cataclysm, a terrible event from Genshin Impact, is shown. The ground is destroyed and red lava seeps through the ground with broken pieces of rock floating through the hair in front of a red sky. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

We don’t know all the details about the fall of Khaenri’ah, but there’s one thing for certain… it wasn’t pleasant. Abyssal monsters escaping the ruins, the curse (poor hilichurls), and all the destruction. Cue the lions and tigers and bears (oh my!).

The Unknwon God, from Genshin Impact, stands with her left arm outstretched as she aims a cube looking power at someone off screen. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

If you’re like any of us, you need a reminder of the opening cutscene every now and again. It’s our first introduction to the main story and it can be overwhelming for a new character. We’ve added it to our YouTube channel for quick reference.

On the left we see the blue eye of Pierro, showing his star shaped pupil. We see on the right Kaeya and Dainsleif, who also have blue eyes and star shaped pupils. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

We know some people escaped Khaenri’ah or fled before the fall. One common attribute to all these characters is their star/primogem shaped irises. Check out Kaeya, Dainsleif & Pierro for example.

Halfan, an NPC from Genshin Impact, stands with his eyes closed and head down. He holds a hand over over his heart. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Halfdan’s final cutscene in The Chasm should have come with a warning to bring tissues. The curse sure was rough on these folks.

Kiana, from Honkai Impact the Third, looks down on us with a smirk. She has white hair and golden eyes, her pupils are diamond/star shaped. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Bee & Al opened the can of worms that is the Honkai theory. Below are some videos that help show the connection.

We also can’t deny the similarities of Kiana and the Unknown God in their look alone (especially the eyes).

An overview map of the surface of The Chasm, a location in Genshin Impact. It has yellow and gold terrain and swirls inward toward a purple blob that pulsates. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Tif’s theory of The Chasm potentially being a road to Khaenri’ah may have been debunked, but it still is the only place on the HoYoLab map that animates.

If you haven’t checked out the Teyvat Interactive Map on HoYoLab, do yourself a favor and bookmark it. It’s always improving and a great resource.

An overview map of the underground areas of the Sumeru Desert. It has brown coloring with blue markers for water. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Speaking of maps, Feen mentioned the underground map in the Sumeru Desert. It’s actually been added to the interactive map as well. It even shows you where the cave openings are.

The head of a brown monster with a city on it from Final Fantasy 10. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Feen mentions that Final Fantasy 10’s idea of Sin, a monster that is believed to attack the people of Spira to get revenge on the people for their overuse of technology. You can read more on the Villians Wiki page.

Theres not much shown of the fall of Khaenri’ah. The closest thing we have is the Unknown God meeting the travelers.

There are so many talented & creative people in the Genshin community, and we’d like to spread some love to a wonderful artist – Cupoi. The cinematic look of their art is compelling, especially when it comes to something so grandiose at The Cataclysm.
