Tales of Teyvat, a Genshin Lore Podcast

Episode 42: Shenhe

SEASON THREE

Every episode our team will work to provide you with visual and video aids to help you better understand comparisons and what we’re talking about.

Below are some resources surrounding what we discussed about Shenhe that may be helpful to better understand this week’s lore:

Shenhe from Genshin Impact, stands to her side facing the the viewer. Her hand rests on her chest and her very large braid blows in the breeze behind her. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Tevat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Shenhe’s backstory is a tragic one, one that legends are made of. Which is why Yun Jin’s father wrote their latest opera based on her story, with some positive spins.

Shenhe, from Genshin Impact, bends over to feel the forehead of Chongyun. Chongyun is leaning back, as if scared or flustered, and has a light blush under his eyes. Shenhe has the back of her hand on his forehead and appears to be talking to him. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Tevat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

As Feens reminded us, we learn at the end of Shenhe’s character demo that she’s actually Chongyun’s aunt. Which makes sense since they are both from exorcist villages.

Shenhe, from Genshin Impact, faces her Uncle Mingjun. Uncle Mingyun has the back of his head facing the viewer and we can only see his grey hair and outfit. Shenhe faces the camera, and her uncle, while standing sideways. She says, "If that's okay with you... Uncle Mingyun?" This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Tevat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

If you’re interested in seeing Shenhe’s full story quest, or would like a refresher, you can watch the full quest thanks to WoW Quests on YouTube.

An old brown book with a cracked design of a tree. It has white rope on his binding, and looks old. This is the book "Record of Changing Village" from Genshin Impact. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Tevat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

The village Shenhe comes from is on the southwestern side of Mt. Tianheng. It’s desserted and falling apart, but thanks to Uncle Mingjun we’re able to find notes about Shenhe’s past. Notes that help Yun Jin put together the fact that Shenhe’s story and her opera are in fact the same story.

When we complete the quest to find Subrosium, we’re given the book ‘Record of Changing Village’. In this book we learn how “in around two weeks, the mother died of disease, the young daughter went missing, and shortly after, the father hanged himself on a tree in the yard of his own house.” Sound familiar?

The Jade Chamber, from Genshin Impact, sits in the sky as a frozen wave is stopped from taking it down. The Jade Chamber is gold and black in the night sky. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Tevat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

During the epic battle between the Jade Chamber and Beisht, we see some skills from our vision holders that we haven’t before. Like Ningguangs giant stone arrows and Shenhe’s frozen tsunami.

This photo is split in half. On the left is Shenhe, from Genshin Impact, facing away from the viewer, showing us the back of our outfit. When the viewer looks closer, they can se that Shenhe's outift resembles the design of Cloud Retainer, a large bird Adeptus in the game. To the right of the image, the viewer can see Cloud Retainer, a large white bird with blue and gold designs. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Tevat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Feens points out that the back of Shenhe’s outfit matches Cloud Retainer. It’s little details like these that show just how intentional so much of the game development is inline with the lore of the characters.

Chongyun, a blue haired boy from Genshin Impact. He stands in white billowy pants with a blue belt and bandaids on his one ankle. He stands in a dark forest with blue ghost like lights floating around him. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Tevat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

The place where Chongyun hangs around trying desperately to be exorcise spirits is Wuwang Hill. You can see the blue light spirits hanging around anytime you go there. If you want to know why Chongyun isn’t a good exorcist and why he always needs popsicles nearby, check out his in-game hangout.

Calamity Queller, a polearm from Genshin Impact. The top of the weapon is shown and is blue with three pieces creating a triangle shape. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Tevat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

The Calamity Queller is made of materials not of this world, like a few other items Feens points out. This polearm was made with a stone an exorcist found. All people who have used it have also died a horrible death. Maybe we should just leave this weapon in the Chasm where the stone was found.

Po, a karate fighting panda from Kung Fu Panda, is animated and kicking his leg in the air while standing on a rock. Behind him is a beautiful red, orange and yellow sky. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Tevat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Al makes a reference to the Dragon Warrior in Kung Fu Panda. In case you were as lost as Bee & Tif, here is a clip.

There are so many talented & creative people in the Genshin community, and we’d like to spread some love to a wonderful artist – Coquito (@cqtlatte). What can we say, we’re in love with the swirls! Perhaps its the dreamlike fairytale feel it gives otherwise hardened characters like Shenhe. Maybe it’s simply because it’s done so well and marries all the colors of the pieces together. Either way, it’s beautiful!
