Tales of Teyvat, a Genshin Lore Podcast

Episode 58: The Fontaine Siblings

SEASON THREE

Every episode our team will work to provide you with visual and video aids to help you better understand comparisons and what we’re talking about.

Below are some resources surrounding what we discussed about the Fontaine Siblings that may be helpful to better understand this week’s lore:

Lyney & Lynnette from the original Genshin Impact Story Preview video. Lyney stands on the ground holding out his left hand to help his sister, who seems to be coming down off of a ledge. With his other hand he holds his top hat on his head.

We discuss our initial thoughts on Lyney & Lynette from the original chapter preview video (and the Fontaine intro video). Do you remember your original opinions of our magicians?

Lyney, a magician from the nation of Fontaine. This is a close up on his face as he looks alluringly at the camera with a smile. His eye are particularly vibrant.

Lyney is the eldest, and protector, of the three Fontaine siblings. He feels it’s his duty to take care of his siblings, even if it means putting himself in harm’s way.

Lynette, the sister and magician's assistant of Lyney from the nation of Fontaine. This image is a close up of Lynette turning to smile at the camera as she tips her hat.

Lynette is the quiet sister with a lot of trauma. She’s viewed as Lyney’s sidekick – and is literally his assistant in their magic shows, but she’s actually a complex character on her own. Is she a robot? Is she a cat? Is she just tired of listening to people talk and wants to drink her tea in peace?

Freminet, a skilled diver and adoptive brother of Lyney and Lynette. This is shot of Freminet looking down in a shy manner to an electronic penguin he is holding in his hands.

Freminet is the youngest of the trio, and the only adoptive sibling. He’s a skilled diver and is very handy with mechanics.

Two character cards for the character Lyney. The first depicting a fun magician version of Lyney with his tongue sticking out and the second a more serious Fatui Lyney.

This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Tif mentions the change in drip marketing graphics after it’s revealed that the siblings are apart of the Fatui. Most notable is Lyney’s card, where his expression goes from fun to serious, and the card behind him changes from a cat to the Fatui symbol.

Hotel Bouffes d'ete. It is dark out, but there are two lanterns on either side of a green door that illuminate the area. The door has a large archway above it as decoration, a stain glass window, and a rug in front of it. In front of the building there are flowers, some boxes, and a news stand.

It’s presumed that the House of the Hearth still resides at the Hotel Bouffes d’ete, aka the Hotel of Summer Foods as Bee points out. We meet the trio outside this building a few times, so we think it’s safe to say they live there. What do you think? Is Hotel Bouffes d’ete or Hotel Debord their home?

Lyney's Grin Malkin Cat in his magician hat. The cat is a dark purple, popping out of Lyney's hat but also having a hat fly off of it's hat. It has a big smile full of sharp teeth, one ink tear drop eye, and one pink star eye.

Lyney’s Grin-Malkin Cat that lives inside his Grin-Malkin Hat (say that ten times fast) pays homage to his actual kitty that has decided to live inside his magician’s hat and has even helped out during a show or two.

A fun detail is that this cat’s eyes are made of the teardrop from Lyney’s cheek and the star from Lynette’s, even positioned on the proper sides.

Freminet's penguin friend Pers. It is a mechanical penguin with a small beret hat on. It has light blue eyes and bronze detailing to it.

Freminet also has a sidekick, Pers. This mechanical penguin is based on the legend of the first penguin to learn to swim. In the story, Pers asks the birds how to fly and when he gets no answers, he looks into the water and sees the stars reflecting. He jumps in and finally learns to “fly” among the stars.

Cesar meeting the young Lyney and Lynette from Lyney's story quest. Cesar, a magician in a large grey top hat and suit, is down on one knee handing his hand out to a young Lyney and a young Lynette. The siblings hold hands and the scene takes place in front of a red tent.

Lyney’s Story Quest gives us a look into his childhood with Lynette. We learn they met a great magician and asked him to teach them some tricks. The magician only had 10 days to teach them before his shows started, but hardly needed the time since the two were naturals at the trade.

A close up of Cesar, an older magician. It shows him, a blonde man with a mustache, wearing a big hat and a monocle. He is dressed well and smiles softly.

That magician’s name was Cesar. Throughout the quest we work to clear his name from the crimes of the Phantom Weasel. We learn he was framed, and worse, that he was murdered.

Cesar's domain from Lyney's story quest. The screenshot shows a cluttered room, full of pink and purple balloons, a large top hat, gears, and other trinkets for magic.

During the story we visit Cesar’s workshop to look for clues, even after Jemma tells us the Gardes took many of his belongings during the initial investigation. As Feens points out, its a really fun looking place, and definitely not as empty as Jemma makes it sound.

The Fontaine cemetery where Cesar is buried, among other notable Fonatinians. There are about ten graves of all different shapes and sizes under a tree on a grassy hill.

We’ve never visited a cemetery in Teyvat quite as much as we have in Fontaine. Located in the Poisson region (and near dumb Henri and his beach head), this is where we first meet Jemma. Along with some other notable names we learn about in other quests, this is where Cesar was laid to rest.

The Lumidouce Bell (right) and Rainbow Rose (left) flowers from the Fontaine region in Genshin Impact.

Charlotte points out the flower Lyney uses in his trick with Traveler is the Lumidouce Bell (right), a symbol of separation instead of a Rainbow Rose (left) that symbolizes love. A fact that both Al and Feens find very interesting & foretelling.

Freminet in his diver helmet during the limited-time event Thelxie's Fantastic Adventure. Despite the helmet, which is black with a light up screen and bronze detailing, has no emotion, it seems sad.

We talk about Freminet’s recent event, Thelxie’s Fantastic Adventure. Bee calls it the saddest story to date in game. Do you agree?

The mechanical penguin Thelxie, the namesake of the limited-time event Thelxie's Fantastic Adventure. The penguin is white and blue with bronze detailing. It wears a bronze crown with pink, blue and yellow seashells on it. It has a shield, shaped like a seashell, and a sword, shaped like a unicorns horn, that have similar coloring to the shells on the crown.

This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Thelxie is a mechanical penguin that Freminet is working on for Zuria Destree. After the event is over, we were able to place our very own Thelxie in our teapots.

The cover art from the event Thelxie's Fantastic Adventure - before and after completing the story. The top image shows the before, which has Freminet (left) sitting on a rock looking at Thelxie, Zuria and Paimon as they look at a book. The bottom image shows the same image, except where Thelxie is is now Thelxie and her son.

This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

The last gut punch of the event is when we complete the story and the event banner changes to show Zuria’s son Lescot where Thelxie once stood alone. While we’re all happy she got closure, we all need a hug now and maybe a cookie.
