Tales of Teyvat, a Genshin Lore Podcast

Episode 22: Cloud Retainer

SEASON TWO

Every episode our team will work to provide you with visual and video aids to help you better understand comparisons and what we’re talking about.

Below are some resources surrounding what we discussed about Cloud Retainer that may be helpful to better understand this week’s lore:

Cloud Retainer, a bird creature that can talk in Genshin Impact. She sits in a beautiful blue/teal night sky with stars and lanterns around her. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

The most recent lore we learned about Cloud Retainer came from this years Lantern Rite. Not only did we get to see her in a human form, but we learned more of Streetward Rambler (aka Madame Ping) and Guizhong.

An orange bird (Moon Carver) and an orange and green dear with horns (Mountain Shaper), talking magical creatures from Genshin Impact. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

The other living adepti we meet in the game are Moon Carver and Mountain Shaper (Bee’s favorite). We meet them during our first initial Liyue quests.

The Guili Assembly once ruled over Liyue before the Archon War. The assembly was established by Morax (Zhongli), Guizhong, Streetward Rambler (Madame Ping), and Cloud Retainer. But also included other gods like the God of the Stove Marchosius (Guoba).

A stone table and two stone stools in Liyue, a nation in Genshin Impact. The table has food and tea on it, and it is places in an orange forest. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

On Mount Aocang you can still find the table where Cloud Retainer, Morax, and Guizhong would meet. There are notes to their favorite foods as well.

Shenhe (left), Yao Yao (middle), and Ganyu (right), from Genshin Impact, stand next to one another. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

While Shenhe and Ganyu were technically the only disciples Cloud Retainer had (at least during this era of Teyvat), she was also very fond of Madame Ping’s disciple, Yaoyao. She even created the rabbit Yuegui that protects Yaoyao.

Zhongli (top), Cloud Retainer (Middle) and Xiao (bottom), from Genshin Impact, are each zoomed in to only show their eyes. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Tif mentioned a similarity amongst Morax, Cloud Retainer & Xiao’s eyes in her now-debunked theory. It is still a neat nuance that maybe will reveal itself to have some meaning in the future.

As we started out this episode you heard us talk about “Cloud Retainer’s Fruit Container.” This is the great little spot in our friend’s teapot that always tickles us.

Lantern Rite showed us the young version of Madame Ping that we’ve all been waiting for.

A definitely an improvement from the leaks in the past.

There are so many talented & creative people in the Genshin community, and we’d like to spread some love to a wonderful artist – Hypnavoid. We already fell in love with Cloud Retainer’s human form in the Lantern Rite cutscene, but Hypnovoid takes it to a whole other level! Just gorgeous!
