Below are some resources surrounding what we discussed about Mahamatra Cyno that may be helpful to better understand this week’s lore:

A close up of Mahamatra Cyno, from Genshin Impact, drinking water out of leather canteen with his eyes closed. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Before following us down the path of the General Mahamatra, revisit his character teaser for a refresher.

During Cyno’s character demo we get a good look at his jackal inspired outfit. That is if you can look past those shorts.

Cyno’s Collected Miscellany video brings us into the world of the Akademiya scholars and how they push the limits. Along with the need for the Matra and especially the General Mahamatra.

Cyno, from Genshin Impact, stands with his hands on his hop looks at a man with grey hair and glasses that has his back to the camera. We can only see the second person's back/side profile. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

The Court of Desolation takes center stage during Cyno’s Story Quest. We learn his previous partner Taj has seemingly gone down a dark path and potentially may try to resurrect his son Murtada. The son he put in jail for researching the ruins, who then committed suicide days later.

Court of Desolation, a domain in Genshin IMpact, has an alter that glows purple in front of a grey and gold wall with triangle shaped wall markings. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

As mentioned above, we journey to the Court of Desolation during Cyno’s Story Quest. At the end of the quest, we find that Taj’s reasons for being at the ruins were not nefarious but instead were quite heroic as he plans to bury the ruins – and himself – deep under the sand so no one can be tempted to research them again.

Alhaitham (left) and Cyno (right), from Genshin Impact, fight with their sword and pole arms. They fight on a floor of sand with cacti behind them. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

We mention in the episode that our first interaction with Cyno actually comes in the form of a fight with Alhaitham. This battle ends up being a simple misunderstanding but is still pretty intense as these two heavy-hitters face off.

Candied Ajilenakh Nuts, food from Genshin Impact, they are white bars with green, yellow, and brown spots in them. There are three of them on a green plate with a yellow sauce on top of them. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Cyno really loves Tighnari’s nuts.

So much so that Cyno can be seen bringing the delectable Candied Ajilenakh Nuts to many people and places in Sumeru.

And yes, you can also make Baklava with the Ajilenakh Nuts as Al mentions.

Hermanubis, a god, from Genshin Impact. He has anubis ears, long brown hair, and wears what is assumed to be clothes inspired by ancient Egypt Pharaohs. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

While we don’t have a ton of information about Hermanubis, a great sage during the reign of King Deshret, we do know that Cyno’s Mahamatra outfit was made to have a likeness to him. Cyno’s Elemental Burst is also said to allow him to channel the divine spirit of Hermanubis.

A screenshot from the Genshin Impact Manga. It shows Collei in rags and bandages on her hands and knees screaming, a purple power comes out of her in the shape of a triangle. In the distance we see Cyno, wearing a black cape with Anubis ears, standing with his hands clasped together. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Cyno’s story starts back in the Manga, where we see him seal Collei’s powers within her as a way to protect her and others around her.

If you’re interested in reading the Manga, you can find links to it on our Resources page.

Lisa, from Genshin Impact, sits on a chair reading from a book. Next to her was a pile of books, a plant, and a light. Lisa is wearing a Sumeru based outfit, and not her traditional look. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

We mention that Cyno shares a master with another beloved character, Lisa. Both Cyno & Lisa studied at the Akademiya under the former sage of Spantamad, Cyrus. No, not the Mondstadt NPC… although we’re sure he would have also been a great foster dad to Cyno.

A Genshin Impact NPC stands looking at the camera. She has brown hair pulled into a side brain with side bangs and wears a white dress with a blue shawl and black belt. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Bee tells us that if you use Nahida’s ability to read minds you’ll find out that Shohre, a Matra, is thinking if she continues to hide she won’t have to deal with Mahamatra Cyno’s jokes. Or probably more so, she won’t have to listen to him painfully explain the joke.

Razor, from Genshin Impact, kneels on the grown with his one hand steadying him and the other holding a claymore behind his back on his shoulders. Behind him is a purple backdrop that shows Razor's in game constellation shaped like a wolf. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

We talk about how Razor may have a familiar connection to Cyno based off his constellation. Are these canine inspired characters long lost brothers or simply just coincidental? Let us know what you think!
