Tales of Teyvat, a Genshin Lore Podcast

Episode 51: Jean Gunhildr

SEASON THREE

Every episode our team will work to provide you with visual and video aids to help you better understand comparisons and what we’re talking about.

Below are some resources surrounding what we discussed about Jean Gunhildr that may be helpful to better understand this week’s lore:

Jean, from Genshin Impact, kneels holding her sword impaled into the ground. She has both hands on the sword hilt, with her eyes closed looking down as if in prayer. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

We always recommend checking out a character’s teaser or demo, but for our OG’s we only have the miscellany. Still worth a look while we journey back to one of our first friends in Teyvat.

Aether (left) and Paimon (right), from Genshin Impact, stand in front of Jean's desk with their backs to the camera. Jean (middle) stands behind her desk. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

During Jean’s Story Quest we see just how overworked the Acting Grand Master is! After suffering some serious exhaustion, we take on some her tasks along with other Mondstadtians. This woman needs a vacation, or twenty.

Aggretsuko, a 2D fox, sits behind a laptop at a desk typing. She looks dead on the inside. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Feens brings up a cute comparison to Jean – Aggretsuko! A red panda with a boring and stressful day job that sings death metal at a karaoke bar at night to relieve her stress. If Jean was at a karaoke bar, what music do you think she’d rock out to?

A book, known as Vera’s Melancholy in Genshin Impact, is green with gold detailing. It was a fake language written on the front as a title. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Al brings us through the 10-book series Vera’s Melancholy that is Jean’s favorite romance novel. If you’re like Bee and want to read this love story, you can find the books in Jean’s office, the Mondstadt Library, Dawn Winery, and Wangshu Inn.

BTW, a certain redhead is also reading the books. Coincidence? We think not.

Speaking of romance novels, both Bee and Al reference some queens of genre… albeit from different times. Perhaps the mother of all romance, Danielle Steel is the bestselling living author of the day with a career spanning 5 decades. Al mentions Katee Robert, a contemporary romance novelist whose quick rise to fame is thanks to her many “monster-f**king” books.

A large and lush green tree from afar, known as Windrise in Genshin Impact. In front of a Statue of the Seven. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

When Jean needs some time for reflection, she heads to Windrise. More specifically to sit under her role-model’s large oak tree. When Vennessa ascended to Celestia from this space, she left behind a small sapling that has sprouted into this massive tree.

Screenshots of Vennessa, from Genshin Impact, in the Webtoon/manga. The one in the back shows her chatting with Venti, then an overlap of different images from the manga. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Tif continues her fight of not reading the Manga by proving her point that she does know what Vennessa looks like thanks to a flashback from Venti.

Check out our Genshin Resources page for links to the Manga.

On the left is Il Capitano, from Genshin Impact, and on the right is a Ringwraith from Lord of the Rings. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

We mention the creepiness of Il Capitano while we discuss Varka’s trek to Natlan, where the Harbinger is said to be. Tif compares his empty face to the Ringwraiths (Nazgûls) of The Lord of the Rings.

On the left is a screenshot of Eroch from the Genshin Impact manga. It has him headless, holding his hand out beckoning at the reader and wearing a blue ring. On the right is Dottore from. the manga, he is goofy looking and has both of his hands in his pockets. There are arrows pointing out who is who. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Feens has a very compelling argument that Eroch, the disgraced former Inspector of the Knights of Favonius, could possibly be a segment of Dottore. Since this was way before he made the deal with Nahida to erase his segments in return for the Dendro Gnosis, it sure is feasible. What do you think?

Azhdaha, Al's crested gecko, leans over looking down from a hand. It is a yellow lizard with brown eyes. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Al has a soft-spot for Jean’s pet turtles thanks to her own cold-blooded buddies, Azhdaha & Guili. These two crested geckos sometimes make an appearance on our weekly recording snapshots. Follow us on Instagram and X/Twitter to catch a glimpse on an upcoming episode.
