Every episode our team will work to provide you with visual and video aids to help you better understand comparisons and what we’re talking about.
Below are some resources surrounding what we discussed about Honkai that may be helpful to better understand this week’s lore:

As the Captains in this episode mention, there are four mangas you can read to catch up to the story in the game.
* Bee notes this one is super important if you’re just getting into the game.

Early in the episode, Bee does some recapping of the story. In case it was not clear, he was recapping the manga and everything that happened up until the start of the game.
Quick recap: the 1st Impact involved Welt Joyce / Welt Yang (left), the 2nd Impact involved Sirin (middle), and the 3rd Impact involved Mei / Kiana (right).

Al mentions the confirmed connections between Honkai and Genshin but could not recall the source at the time. Below is the info she was referencing, available at Game Rant:
The Connection Between Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, and Honkai Impact 3rd Explained

As our special guest host Vanessa likes to say, she came for Fischl and stayed for the Sea of Quanta. Genshin Impact’s Fischl is a playable character in Honkai with the same story and all. She is 100% the Fischl we know and love.

Two characters that have a lot of comparisons and similarities but are not (or are they?) the same characters is the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles we see in the opening cutscene of Genshin and Kiana, one of the main protagonists of Honkai Impact 3rd – a vessel for the 2nd Herrscher (Herrscher of the Void).

Speaking of similarities, we mention the unmistakably similar looks of both Wendy and manga-version Venti. To add a bit more to the assumption of their relationship, they both wield the power of wind. Coincidence? Probably not.

Griseo is mentioned in the episode as the pilot of the ‘Ark’ in Honkai Impact 3rd, which left in search of other habitable planets for humanity before returning to the game later – with a light saber! (shown in her hand on the left)

Al mentions the ‘Jiggle Physics’ of Honkai. And, well, that sure is some jiggle.
While perhaps not as prevalent in Genshin, jiggle physics is definitely an element of the Hoyoverse.

We talk about how March 7th is found in six phased ice, which is ruled by imaginary powers not found on the Trailblazer’s normal planet. But it is found on our planet IRL. Known as Ice VI, it exists in high pressure at a range of temperatures from -225°F up to 180°F (−143°C up to 82°C). It’s also found in the inner layers of Titan – Saturn’s largest moon.

In Honkai there is a character named Su that travels to an imaginary world called Sumeru. Plus, he looks like Alhaitham (with a bit of Biazhu). Repetition of character models from the developers or a more meaningful connection of the two? As of right now, we just don’t know for sure.

Another Genshin character that crossed over to Honkai was Keqing. Although her stay was short and she’s not a playable character like Fischl, her existence in both worlds must have story behind it. Right?

It’s not just the characters that have similarities in these games. Many people pointed out at the release of Fontaine in Genshin that the way the Oratrice Mecanique d’Analyse Cardinale (bottom) renders verdicts looks a lot like the animation of the Star Rail Summons (top).

Have you ever noticed the yellow bunnies in Honkai & Genshin? Its name is Homu and it pays tribute to one of the game’s creators, Liu “Dawei” Wei. Dawei is the most popular of the public figures of the company and appears in many of the livestreams and releases.

Tif mentions that every time she hears Bee say ‘diametrically opposed’, she immediately starts singing ‘diametrically opposed, foes’ from the song The Room Where it Happens from Hamilton.

Some of the graphics in Honkai are thirst traps for sure. I mean, jiggle physics alone proves that. But none as detailed as the Stigmata named Hannah. 👀

As Vanessa & Bee mentioned, there is a new version Honkai Impact 3rd coming out soon with all new graphics.
Honkai Impact 3rd Part 2 is planned to be released in February 2024.

Artist Spotlight

There are so many talented & creative people in the Genshin community, and we’d like to spread some love to a wonderful artist – Kutty Sark (@kuttysarkart). Their pieces all blend a mixture of traditional illustration and manga/comic style into these beautiful scenes full of small details. Often looking like illustrations in a fairy tale, they always capture the emotion in their characters expressions.
