Episode 110: Layla

SEASON SIX

Our team provides travelers with visual and video aids every episode to help them better understand comparisons, learn more about topics, and follow what we’re discussing. While we strive to include links to official Genshin Impact resources, some may also be to third-party channels.

Below are some resources surrounding this episode about Layla that may be helpful to understand the talking points and lore better:

Genshin Impact's Layla as shown in her trailer. She holds a blue ball and is surrounded by blue sparkles, swirls and stars.

Layla’s character demo and collected miscellany videos give an introduction to her studies and sleepwalking. We even get a glimpse into her shadow self.

A Profile view of Layla from Genshin Impact as shown from the shoulders up. It highlights her elf ears, different hat/hood, and golden eyes.

Layla’s swoopy hair, elf-like ears, and hood that defies gravity & physics all add to her distinctive style. We’ve seen others with similar ears, but there’s no solid connection to suggest whether this means she’s non-human or if it’s simply a result of her genetics.

The symbols of the six Darshans of the Sumeru Akademiya. They ar all circular in shape. Clockwise starting from the top left - Kshahrewar - a white lion, Spantamad - a red peacock, Amurta - a green Phoenix, Vahumana - a yellow hourglass with a horse behind it, Haravatat - a black piece of paper next to a bull, and Rtawahist - a blue elephant with stars.

Feens gives us a quick reminder of the Sumeru Akademiya Darshans. Below are the six (with emblem color), their field of study, and recognizable students.

Kshahrewar (White) – Technology, Kaveh
Amurta (Green) – Biology, Tighnari
Rtawahist (Blue) – Illuminationism, Layla
Spantamad (Red) – Elementalism, Cyno & Lisa
Haravatat (Black) – Semiotics, Alhaitham & Faruzan
Vahumana (Yellow) – Aetiology, Wanderer

Layla from Genshin Impact in the library. She sits in a large wooden chair with a green cushion and is using a red feather to write on a piece of paper, one of many scattered on the table. Behind her is a bookshelf.

Layla has two distinct personalities, even if she’s unaware of them. Her daytime or sleepy self is the student we see worrying and staying up way too late working on her research. Her shadow self is the get-things-done, confident, overachiever. There’s a distinct difference in posture and tone between these two.

Genshin Impact's Dori shown in her birthday art. She is surrounded by Mora nad her Jinni and has a big smile on her face.

If anyone was gonna be selling drugs on a campus, Tif and Bee undoubtedly assume it’s going to be Dori. And poor Layla is the perfect candidate to fall for the pitch. Next time, she should take her chances with Feens and Tighnari in the forest looking for some magic mushrooms.

Kazuha from Genshin Impact shown from the waist up as he blows hair on a green leaf. He holds it with both hands and has his eyes closed.

Have you gotten any of the Thespian Tricks from completing levels in Imaginarium? Well, if you do, Tif wants you to check out Kazuha’s. It’s a still from his idle, and he totally looks like he’s rolling a joint. Would you expect anything less from that tree-hugging hippie?

Layla sits on a wooden platform holding a scroll while sitting next to a young boy eating a fruit. At a table behind her are two adults also eating fruit, assumed to be the child's parents. The traveler is walking over to Layla on her left holding food in her hand. Layla is looking up at her.

Layla's talisman is imposed over top of the image and is blue and gold. It resembles a dreamcatcher in design and has a star pattern in the middle of it.

During Layla’s hangout, we go on a scavenger hunt following notes from the Wisdom Seelie. At the end of one of the branches, we knock on a random door to find a man who knows Layla. Mundhir not only tells us how Layla helped his family but also gives her a box she left there during her last visit. The box contained her mother’s missing talisman.

The High-precision celestial globe and Azzam. The globe is blue and sparkles with gold pieces around it. It sits in a circular piece on a white pedestal. Azzam stands in front of it. with his arms crossed. He has grey hair and glasses and wears a yellow, green, brown and white outfit.

When we try to help Layla finish her thesis, we end up visiting an astronomy enthusiast named Azzam, who doubts that Layla is an actual student. After answering some questions, he lets us borrow his high-precision celestial globe. Which conveniently just so happens to be outside his tent.

Layla's constellation, six stars connected by light blue lines to show a nightingale in a bubble.

Feens tells us about Layla’s constellation Luscinia. It is the representation of a nightingale. A bird known to sing a beautiful tune when most people are heading to sleep. Sounds familiar, huh?

Genshin Impact's Paimon and a movie kamera. In front of her on the table is a blank postcard and a brown Kamera her hands. Her eyes are closed and she is laughing. In front of her on the table is a blank postcard and a brown Kamera.

Here are some helpful links if you’re unfamiliar with the pop culture references we mentioned during the episode. Feens mentions a Final Fantasy character named Vivi when talking about Layla’s hood. Tif mentions the Who’s Deanna scene from The Walking Dead when talking about the library.

Letters from Afar

Questions and comments delivered weekly by Kirara and the Komaniya Express

Kirara from Genshin Impact standing next to a wooden mailbox and a squirrel. There are two letters imposed next to her and she stands on a stone patio with grass and a pink sky behind her.

An aerial view of Huitztli Hill in Natlan shown in green and yellow shades with a large white arrow pointing to a specific point on the map.

You can find the three jacked-up Fatui over at Huitztli Hill in Natlan. A tip from Feens, start the fight on the opposite side of the fire guy and you can tackle the first two without him getting involved.

Columbina, one of the Fatui Harbingers from Genshin Impact, kneels at a coffin while resting her arms on it and her head on her arms. She looks peaceful and calm and wears a large white jacket and has feathers coming out of her black and pink hair.

Piano or coffin? Definitely a coffin.
