Tales of Teyvat, a Genshin Lore Podcast

Episode 34: The Gods of the Desert

SEASON TWO

Every episode our team will work to provide you with visual and video aids to help you better understand comparisons and what we’re talking about.

Below are some resources surrounding what we discussed about The Gods of the Desert that may be helpful to better understand this week’s lore:

A screenshot from a 2D cutscene in Genshin Impact. It shows a pyramid with a star emerging from it. In the star is an eye. The sky behind it has a large sun and is yellow. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

We learn much of the story of the Scarlet King’s trial with Forbidden Knowledge in a cutscene shown to us during our search in the Sumeru ruins. The birth of Eleazar and the reason for the Dendro Archon’s small size are all intertwined in this bit of history.

A Book, "The Lay of Al-Ahmar" from Genshin Impact. It is brown with a pyramid design on it. Above the pyramid is a geometrical design. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Another place we learn about King Deshret and the desert people is in “The Lay of Al-Ahmar” – a book found on a desk in the House of Daena at the Akademiya library. There are lots of good lore nuggets in this book and we recommend giving it a read.

A small tree with no leaves on an island i the middle of a serene lake. There are birds flying over top of the tree and grass on the island. The sky is pink and there is a waterfall behind the tree. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

After the Goddess of Flowers died, King Deshret created the Orchard of Pairidaeza, also known as the Eternal Oasis. This moment frozen in time for all of eternity acts as a grave site to the Goddess Nabu Malikata. It is located at Mt. Damavand in the Desert of Hadramaveth and unlocked during the Jhet quest line.

Nahida, an archon from Genshin Impact, smiles at the camera. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

We talk about the saddest cutscene we’ve seen so far from HoYoverse. It’s centered around Nahida’s birthday and what her life was like when she first became the Dendro Archon.

A large gateway underground, surrounded by jagged rocks and roots with a dirt path leading up to it. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

During the Pari quest line we are brought to a large door underground while exploring the caves in Sumeru. The locked door is the entrance to Khaenri’ah – and it’s the first time we’re given this ancient nation’s location in game. You can find it in the caves west of Vourukasha Oasis.

A small pool of water, known as the Amrita Pool in Genshin Impact. It is surrounded by green grass and some purple/blue flowers. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

The Amrita Pool is the overflow of the Amirta that formed into a clear spring inside a cave in the Vourukasha Oasis. It’s the location where the Hydro Archon died during the Cataclysm and became a seal over the dark hole that was torn into The Abyss.

A purple flower with yellow stems coming out of its bud. It has three laves that are green with purple tips. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

The beautiful Padisarahs found in the rainforest of Sumeru aren’t the OG flowers. When Nabu died, these flowers went extinct. As a way to honor her friend, Rukkhadevata brought them back to life, but with one caveat. She couldn’t get the color purple to be just right. During Nilou’s Sabzeruz dance, you can see the true Padisarahs bloom all around her.

Albedo, from Genshin Impact, stands on grass on the edge of the game. In front of him is behind the scenes game design that is not meant to be seen by the player. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Feens likes to, as she said, “do stupid shit” in the game. So none of us were surprised when she glitched herself in the ocean and walked from Ritou to Mondstadt. Follow her on Instagram and TikTok to see all sorts of silly things she tries.

@talesoftif After all this time, we finally have our first look at Khaenri’ah. What’s behind the door? #genshinimpact #sumeru #sumerugenshinimpact #khaenriah #sumerudessert #genshin ♬ Moon – Fernan Birdy
