Tales of Teyvat, a Genshin Lore Podcast

Episode 35: The Bloodstained Knight

SEASON TWO

Every episode our team will work to provide you with visual and video aids to help you better understand comparisons and what we’re talking about.

Below are some resources surrounding what we discussed about The Bloodstained Knight that may be helpful to better understand this week’s lore:

Five pieces of the Bloodstained Knight artifact set from Genshin Impact. Top left is a black mug with small red wings coming off of a gold diamond badge. Top left is a black hourglass with red blood instead of stand. There is a chain on it as decoration. Bottom left is a metal mask that is blue, red and white. Bottom right is a black feather with red streaks. Middle is a black flower with a gold star in the middle. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Some of the lore we know about the Bloodstained Knight comes from the Bloodstained Chivalry artifact set. You can find this set at the domain Clear Pool and Mountain Cavern near Mt. Aocang in Liyue. Notably, the Bloodstained Flower of Iron is the flower given to Roland by the maiden and the Bloodstained Final Hour (sands) tells the story of his journey to Khaenri’ah and the Abyss.

The Black sword from Genshin Impact. It is red with a golden base and its handle is silver with a gold decor item at the bottom. Behind it is a purple starry background. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

The Black Sword, available through Battle Pass, tells us more about Roland’s history. It tells the story of the White Knight and how he became the Bloodstained Knight, including how he was taught by Rostam, the flower from the maiden, why he wears the iron mask, and that he learned of the “ultimate injustice” in Khaenri’ah.

The Maiden’s Distant Love flower of life artifact from the Maiden Beloved set is the same flower given to the White Night.

“Though a maiden’s heart is said to change with the seasons, just like a flower,
This flower remained constant.
For her heart had stilled in that moment long ago:
The moment that she met the knight.”

Il Captiano, a Fatui Harbinger from Genshin Impact, faces off camera. It is unknown what he is looking at since his face is not visible. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Il Capitano, aka The Captain, is one of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers. We get our first look at him in A Winter Night’s Lazzo, along with a few other Harbingers. A popular theory is that the Bloodstained Knight is Il Capitano and we’re completely on board with this! Read more about this theory on Reddit.

A hilichurl, a monster from Genshin Impact, stands looking at the camera with a purple hanky tied on its wrist. Behind him is Chlothar, and NPC wearing a white and purple suit with a gold emblem on his chest. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

We first meet Chlothar Alberich in the Archon Quest Chapter III: Act VI – Caribert, along with the titular character Caribert. We find out Chlothar is a relative of Kaeya – although we don’t know exactly how – and that he started the Abyss Order. Is it possible the Bloodstained Knight met him during his journey west?

A purple stone crystal that glows floats in the middle of a chamber with chains attached tot it. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

As we continued to talk about Clothar and his involvement in the Abyss and overall story, we mention the “Voice in the Head” – a crystal hung in a broken domain – that speaks to us. The hilichurls are bowing down in front of it and it speaks of a sinner. Could this be the spirit of Roland?

Rudolf (left), Lily (middle), and Jilliana (rigt), NPCs from Genshin Impact. They all stand with their own backgrounds staring at the camera. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

We mention briefly the issues our poor Lily is facing. In short, our Mondstadt NPC family is having some drama after Jilliana’s past is revealed by Vile. Next time you get the daily commission to help Rudolf choose a gift for Jilliana (Lily’s parents), select the option to talk to Vile and start this hidden quest line.

Columbina, a Fatui Harbinger from Genshin Impact, leans over a coffin with her eyes closed while singing. This image is showcased on the website for Tales of Teyvat: A Genshin Lore Podcast.

Lastly we discuss Columbina, and her singing skills. She is the third Fatui Harbinger and also known as the Damselette. Like many of the harbingers, we don’t know too much about her. But when both Tartaglia and Wanderer warn you about someone, I think it’s safe to say she’s pretty powerful.

A look into the Bloodstained Knight.

There are so many talented & creative people in the Genshin community, and we’d like to spread some love to a wonderful artist – Missem (@_lemissem). This mysterious and ominous portrayal of Il Capitano really highlights the uneasiness we feel about this character. Plus the inclusion of the wolves makes us think of Roland’s connection to Rostam, intentional or not. Much of Missem’s work shares this dark, foreboding feel and it’s absolutely gorgeous!
