Episode 94: Kujou Sara

Welcome to our special guest host, Beefy! Beefy is one of the hosts of The Shade Chamber, a fellow Genshin Impact podcast, and the co-collaborators of our discord, Shades of Teyvat.

Kujou Sara, our mysterious tengu warrior and devotee to the Raiden Shogun, is well known across Inazuma. As a part of the Tenryou Commission, she was entrusted with carrying out the Vision Hunt Decree and seized many visions during that time. She continues to lead the Inazuma troops to this day.

Our first look at Sara comes in the story Kazuha tells us about his friend (RIP Tomo) who wanted to withstand the Musou no Hitotachi to show that the Raiden Shogun’s power was not invincible. Unfortunately, he did not prove his theory, at least not during his life.

Beefy tells us about youkai like the tengu, kitsune, oni, and others and their history in Japanese lore. You can hear more about this topic on The Shade Chamber’s episode “Are the Raidens Youkai? The Japanese Lore behind Akitsu Kimodameshi” on their YouTube channel.

Have you ever heard the expression ‘to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes’? Well, none of us want to walk even a few steps in Sara’s shoes! Those suckers look like they require a lot of balance and skill!

There are many different types of tengu masks, but one of the most recognizable characteristics is their red face and long red nose. There may be legit reasons why they have long noses, but we all know what people like to do with phallic objects.

Sara’s constellation is entitled Flabellum, which means small fan in Latin and is typically used in ceremonies. They are usually made from materials like parchment or feathers, the latter being what Sara’s own fan is made of. Presumably, the feathers are from her own raven wings.
