Below are some resources surrounding this episode about Sangonomiya Kokomi that may be helpful to better understand the talking points and lore:

Kokomi's character teaser video. Kokomi stands looking at an assumed crown holding her hands in front of her. To her left stands a shrine maiden.

Kokomi’s character teaser shows us a glimpse into her beginnings as the leader of Watatsumi Island. Along with hearing her mother comment on her age, we learn about her love of strategy. Both are important foundations of this sweet-sounding character.

Dainsleif gives a briefing on Watatsumi’s past and how the Sangonomiya Clan came to be the protectors of the watery island in Kokomi’s collected miscellany video.

Sangonomiya Kokomi and Kujou Sara negotiating after the end of the Vision Hunt Decree. Kokomi stands looking at Sara . We see Sara's profile from behind.

At the end of her story quest, Kokomi meets with Kujou Sara to negotiate Watatsumi’s reunification with the rest of Inazuma. Things get a bit tense, but nothing these two powerful women couldn’t overcome. Thank goodness cause Paimon wasn’t doing well searching through Kokomi’s guidebooks.

Kokomi with sushi roll braids imposed on her head. Kokomi looks surprised toward the camera.

Kokomi would totally be Princess Leia if this was Star Wars. But space buns wouldn’t work for her, sushi rolls on the other hand would be perfect.

Note: Tif wants to correct her mistake of calling Supreme Leader Snoke “Snood.” Please don’t take away her nerd card.

The first appearance of Sangonomiya Kokomi in Genshin Impact. Kokomi gracefully floats down from the sky surrounded by bubbles.

Kokomi spins her way into our hearts with her first appearance during the battle of the resistance and Tengu samurais on Yashiori Island.

Kokomi's secret hideaway on Watatsumi Island. The hideaway is dark with a dirt floor and rock walls. Wooden furniture, bookshelves, desk, chair, etc adorn the room. In the top right of the image is a circle showing the location of the hideout on the map.

If you also forgot where Kokomi’s secret hideaway is and couldn’t follow the directions to turn left at the big tree, you can find it on the ledge of the island to the left of Bourou Village.

A Tales of Teyvat bingo card. It is blank, and is surrounded by a bee, Cyno, Emelia Clark in Game of Thrones and a thought bubble that says interesting.

Between all the singing, references to Game of Thrones, Cyno dad jokes, and “interestings,” we might as well have a BINGO game going on. Let us know if you’d actually like us to make one to play along with.

The Sangonomiya Chronicles book that can be purchased at the Komore Teahouse. This book is a beautiful purple and pink book with a 2D one color image of Kokomi's shadow on it behind a seashell and text.

Feens mentions that some of the history of Watatsumi Island and its caretakers comes from a set of books called the Sangonomiya Chronicles found at Komore Teahouse. Within these pages, you can read about Orobashi, the meaning behind the name Watatsumi, and how the Sangonomiya Clan became the first noble family on the island.

Enkanomiya in the dark. It shows one of the pillars, made of grey stone with blue lights in the middle. Tree vines grow up the sides and the background is dark.

Lots of the lore of Kokomi’s family, the island, and Orobashi all tie back to Enkanomiya. If you’d like to hear more about the eerie underground of Watatsumi, check out our Season Two episode – Episode 30: Enjou and the Plight of Enkanomiya. And keep an eye out for another episode coming this season where we dive deeper into Orobashi.

Kokomi and a giant whale in her introduction video. Kokomi is deep under water, holding her knees to her chest. The shadow of a whale swims above her.

In Kokomi’s character demo video, there’s an image that may seem familiar to those of you who have finished the Fontaine archon quest. Kokomi is floating in the sea under a giant whale, much like the same vision we have of Childe. Feens wonders if these giant whales could be related somehow or maybe even the same one. What do you think?

An Umibouzu skeleton on the beach in Inazuma. It looks like a large whale skeleton and has a flower wreath places in memoriam on one of the bones. Kumi stands in front of the skeleton.

Speaking of large sea creatures, there’s another we encounter on the southwest shores. Or at least, the skeleton. Kumi tells us that the skeleton belongs to her childhood friend, an Umibouzu. This now-extinct type of sea creature was known to attack cargo ships and rob the fisherman of their catch. Perhaps this is the creature we see with Kokomi and Childe.

Kokomi reading Xingqui's book during her idle animation

A little fun fact about Kokomi, during her idle she pulls out a book and starts reading. No, it’s not one of her military strategy epics, but instead, it’s Xingqui’s sci-fi novel “A Legend of Sword.” We learned during the 2.6 Iridori Festival event that his book has been a huge hit in Inazuma. So there’s no surprise it made its way over to Watatsumi.

Raiden Ei and her lost friends on a picnic blanket. Four characters sit on a picnic blanket in a green field on a beautiful day. One is a tengu, one is an oni, one is Ei, and the other is a Kitsune.

While talking about Moun’s disciple and how they killed Ei’s Tengu friend, we mention “the picnic blanket.” For those who haven’t seen this uplifting, happy story, check out Raiden Shogun’s character teaser. Just kidding, it’s not happy, it’s sad AF. You’ve been warned.

Fellow Traveler Rin wrote in asking our thoughts on the theory that Kokomi could be the reincarnation of Orobashi. While Al could go either way, Feens and Tif lean toward the idea that while she’s not exactly the reincarnation, she is kissed by the gods.

Which leads Bee to sing his own version of “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None The Richer. But in his tune, Kokomi & Orobashi were kissing under Watatsumi Island. In case you’re not familiar with the song, we’ve linked it below.
