Episode 64: Remnants of Gurabad

SEASON FOUR

Every episode our team provides travelers with visual and video aids to help better understand comparisons, learn more about topics, and follow what we’re discussing. While we strive to include links to official Genshin Impact resources, some may also be to third-party channels.

Below are some resources surrounding this episode about the Remnants of Gurabad that may be helpful to better understand the talking points and lore:

Deshret's temple and Liloupar, a Jinni. To the left is a 2D rendering of King Deshrets temple, a pyramid with a large sun on top of it. In the middle of the sun is a star adorned with an all seeing eye. On the right is Liloupar, the Jinni. She is a bottle with two yellow floating orbs inside of her with a pink and purple top.

We just can’t get enough of the desert! This is our third installment talking about the soap opera of sand. Check out the other episodes for a love triangle and (somewhat) accidental incest.

Episode 34: The Gods of the Desert

Episode 54: Liloupar and the Fall of Gurabad

A table at the House of Daena where the book the Shepherd and the Magic Bottle can be found. The Table is over sized, with only two chairs on either side when it could probably fit ten chairs. It has books scattered across it and a lamp. In the distance is a bookshelf.

The Shepherd and the Magic Bottle, a book that can be found on a desk in the House of Daena, gives us the names of the important post-Gurabad desert city-states. While the story is about the Jinni and Ay-Khanoum; Saleh, Tutlaytullah, and Orghana are all discussed.

The Emerald City from the Wizard of Oz movie. It shows characters from the movie (left to right: Lion, Scare Crow, Dorothy, Tin Man) from behind looking over a field of pink flowers with a city sparkling emerald green in the distance.

City of Sapphires with the Palace of Emeralds… how can you not think of the Emerald City in the Wizard of Oz? Unfortunately, no ruby slippers can get you back to Tulaytullah. No matter how many times Tighnari clicks his heels.

The Garden of Endless Pillars domain in the Sumeru desert. The top half of the image shows a domain in the yellow and beige desert. There are a few bushes and a cactus surrounding it with fire pillars in the distance. The bottom half of the photo shows a purple oasis with giant green leaves.

The Garden of Endless Pillars is a one-time domain located west of the Dune of Carouses in the Hypostyle Desert. To open this domain you need to light a few pyro monuments in a certain order. While there are plenty of walkthroughs out there if you get stuck, there are some clues within the plant life – specifically the number of plants next to each monument.

Kazuha and Beidou on the pirate ship the Alcor, belonging to the Crux. Kazuha sits on the edge of the boat, hand up and out toward the sea. Beidou stands behind him, arms crossed.

You think you know someone and then – BAM – pirate hate. JK, we know Feens doesn’t actually hate pirates, maybe. But we do know she doesn’t like calling Kazuha one. Even though he literally sails on a pirate ship as his day job. What do you think? Let us know.

The City of Gold domain located in Khaj-Nisut of the Sumeru desert. The top half of the image shows the inside of the domain which is yellow and gold with sand falling down into the battleground. There is a large door or wall like structure on the opposite side. On the lower half of the image we see the outside image of the domain which sits half in a mountain side surrounded by sand.

Another domain we mention is the City of Gold, located in Khaj-Nisut. This is the place where Deshret fell and we can only imagine the secrets that are still not unearthed over there. Khaj-Nisut is also one of the places in the desert that will transform as you work through the quests. So don’t worry if your map doesn’t match what you see in other traveler’s worlds.

The tv show Game of Thrones. It shows many large swords in the background with golden letters "GOT" in the middle. Beneath the letters are all of the characters from the show standing next to one another.

In case you’re new here, Al loves Game of Thrones and dragons. And especially analogies of Genshin and GOT. Between the incest, murder, vying for power, and the Apep-osauruses, it’s no wonder she’s drawing so many parallels.

Don’t have time to watch all 73 episodes but want to join in on Al’s theories? Here’s a 10 minute recap of the show.

The Tulaytullah Weapon Series of Genshin Impact. Top Left: A catalyst. It has a teal cirlce in the middle floating around it is a 3/4 golden ring with teal accents. Bottom left is the sword. It hasa gold handle and a teal and silver hilt. Bottom right is a claymore that looks very similar to the sword but larger.

The Tulaytullah Weapon Series includes an abundance of – you guessed it – Tulaytullah lore. Made up of the claymore Makhaira Aquamarine (King’s concubine & co-conspirator with Faramarz), catalyst Wandering Evenstar (Old Blind Poet), and sword Xiphos’ Moonlight (Makhaira’s original lover and eventual hero of Tulaytullah); each weapon unlocks more to this ancient civilization’s story.

A fake tv show logo for a show called Love is Blood. The font is white and looks like it is dripping. Around it is red blood splatter.

You’ve heard of Love is Blind, but Feens has a new romance reality show for you…. Love is Blood! With all the incest and murder that happens in this desert, the show would have PLENTY of contestants.

The Safhe Shatranj chess board. It is no regular chess board as it is outside in the desert sand. Half the board is covered in sand and scattered across it are large objects that are actually small scaled version of actual structures located in the desert. Each structure glows blow.

The Safhe Shatranj chess board unlocks a myriad of quests and stories, be sure to unlock every block! It eventually brings you to Gurabad, but could this oversized chess board also be connected to the gnosis like Bee mentions? You know, the chess board… or was that chest board… (iykyk).

The door to Gurabad in the Safhe Shatranj region of the Sumeru desert. The door sits inside of a triangle molding on the outside of the building. A large staircase leads up from the sand to the door. On each side of the door is a large, but beheaded, statue of a man.

They sure do love locked doors in Sumeru. However, the door to Gurabad has been locked up for much longer than Khaenri’ah. You can find Gurabad’s Ruin in Safhe Shatranj after completing the chess quests. It’s near a common daily where you chase elemental particles.

Letters from Afar

Questions and comments delivered weekly by Kirara and the Komaniya Express

Kirara from Genshin Impact standing next to a wooden mailbox and a squirrel. She stands on a stone tile with grass and a pink sky behind here. Imposed next to her are two letters.

Thank you to fellow travelers Smriti, Lumine, and Akali for writing in. We truly appreciate your questions and comments! If you’d like to send us mail via the Komaniya Express, reach out on our Instagram, X/Twitter, or email. We’d love to hear from you! And Kirara could use the work.

The Honkai Impact 3rd manga titled The Second Eruption. A purple haired character is shown in a close up still on the left, looking sad while holding onto a feather. On the right is the same character at a distance shot looking mad.

Smriti on Instagram wrote in after they started to read the Honkai Impact 3rd manga, which made Bee happy. Bee recommends reading the manga, especially The Second Eruption.

The murderous plant from Little Shop of Horrors, Audrey Two. It's a large and ugly green plant in an orange pot. It looks like it's a giant watermelon with teeth.

Lumine on Instagram had a great thought about how Dainsleif may have been messing with the Ley Lines to bring back our memories. While Tif immediately imagined Dain prying open the flower of the blossom, Al went directly to Little Shop of Horrors. If you’re not familiar with this cult classic movie (or theater productions), watch the trailer here. We hope you resisted buying any strange and unusual plants during the recent total solar eclipse.

The gap in Kazuha's front teeth. It's a close up on his face.

Akali from our inbox made us blush and mentioned they were saving for Kazuha. We really hope you got him! Feens also mentioned how Kazuha has a little gap in his front teeth, and we wanted to make sure you all saw the cuteness for yourselves.
