SEASON FOUR

Every episode our team provides travelers with visual and video aids to help better understand comparisons, learn more about topics, and follow what we’re discussing. While we strive to include links to official Genshin Impact resources, some may also be to third-party channels.

Below are some resources surrounding this episode about Rex Lapis, Morax & Zhongli that may be helpful to understand the talking points and lore better:

A close up of Zhongli's face from Genshin Impact. He is stoic, his golden eyes staring off into the distance.

Our first look into Zhongli came with his character demo video, highlighting his stoic nature and love of contracts.

Zhongli from Genshin Impact contemplating buying a ware from a shop. The shop owner is behind him, assumedly talking to Zhongli. Zhongli has a hand on his chin as he thinks.

As the consultant to Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, Zhongli spares no expense when it comes to the finer things of Liyue. Of course, it’s easy to spend lots of Mora when it isn’t coming out of your own pocket.

Zhongli, from Genshin Impact, as he uses his attack to drop a pillar into the field. While we can't see the pillar we can see Zhonli holding his hands out in the air and by his sides while golden squares emanate from his hands His face looks like he's grunting.

His collected miscellany video touches on his vast knowledge of the traditions of Liyue, his stoic nature, and his mysterious past.

Menogius, from Genshin Impact. He has long brown hair with yellow streaks in it. His hair is long and seems to be blowing in the wind. His arms are crossed, as he wears a long brown and gold jacket similar to Zhongli's. He smiles with his eyes closed.

Menogias, aka the yellow yaksha according to Feens or gay one as Bee put it, is the designer and tailor of the suit Zhongli proudly wears.

The exuvia of Rex Lapis from Genshin Impact. A large brown dragon with golden spikes along its back lays on stone in a town center. There are broken pieces of a table and scattered items like a book and clock on the ground.

Zhongli tossed down a stuffed animal version of Rex Lapis during the last Rite of Descension to fool everyone into believing their beloved geo archon was dead. Of course, Traveler was blamed for the death even though we had literally just gotten there.

Victor, a Fatui member from Genshin Impact,. stands sadly looking down at the ground. He has blonde swept back hair and wears a grey mask covering his eyes. Imposed on top of the image is a circle that showcases Lily, a little girl from Mondstadt wearing a pink dress with a lighter pink apron. She has light brown hair with a braid down the back and wears a black hat.

Tif touches on the unlikely friendship of Viktor and Lily. You can start their side story through Mondstadt dailies and follow Viktor as he gets relocated to Sumeru. Hopefully, the Fatui will send him to Natlan so we get more sad Viktor, or maybe he’ll finally send Lily a letter.

Guyun Stone Forest in Genshin Impact. There is gorgeous blue waters with six-nine islands in it. These islands all have spiky mountain peaks, some show grass and one island shows an orange tree. In the distance there are cloud on the horizon.

Bee tells us that the shape of Guyun Stone Forest isn’t as random as it appears, at least according to Alice. Wonder if it’s a giant middle finger to Celestia? Let’s steal one of Fontaine’s airships and find out!

Zhongli from Genshin Impact snaps his fingers and is surrounded by a golden aura. We see him from the waist up, his other arm is behind his back.

We recap Zhongli’s first story quest, in which he teaches us the true history of Havria, the God of Salt. Thanks to a fellow traveler, you can rewatch Wanyan and Kliment pretending to be archaeologists. Al saw right through them and their lack of gloves.

This image is split in half. The top half shows an aerial view of Havria's corpse, a mound of salt, surrounded by spikes of salt and a body turned into salt. The bottom image shows a side profile of multiple human salt statues.

When Havria’s people decided to put her out of her misery, they were mummified in Pompei-style salt statues as their thank-you gift. That’ll teach you to kill a god. Also, does anyone want to clean up this pile of salt in aisle three?

The Salt Chalice and Salt Ruler from Genshin Impact. On the left is the Salt Chalice, a white and slightly teal bowl with a tall and long base. In the center of the bowl is salt. On the right is the Salt Ruler. It is a tall statue. On top there isa gold design that is wider, similar to the hilt of a sword. As you go lower, the ruler starts to glow a bright and light blue.

Wanyan and Kliment share the artifacts found in Sal Terrae – a neverending bowl of salt and a stick that creates a fountain of salt when stuck in the ground. Formerly known as the salt chalice and salt ruler.

A 2D rendition of Zhongli from Genshin Impact shown in a cut scene. He is faceless and wearing a jacket similar to his traditional wear except its more grey then brown and seems to have armor on the shoulders. He holds one hand to his chin in contemplation. Behind him there are traditional Chinese drawings of a room and doorway.

While discussing Zhongli’s interactions at the 2023 Lantern Rite Festival, we mention the cutscene that gave us a look into his life with Guizhong, Cloud Retainer, and Streewtward Rambler. We also mention the rap, but for your sake, we’re not linking it again.

A 2D rendition of Zhongli and Ghuizong from Genshin Impact. Ghuizong has a white short dress on with long bell sleeves and trey hair that is short with two long pieces in the front. She laughs, holding a covered hand to her shin while standing behind a stone table. Zhongli stands at profile looking at Ghuizong, faceless, with a hand on the table.

The foursome, together with Marchosius, make up the Guili Assembly. You can learn more about the Guili Assembly in our season two episode.

This image is broken into two. The top image shows Osial, a snake monster, and showcasing him as five serpents made of water coming out of the ocean. Above him is a ring of water. The bottom image shows Beisht, one headed, opening her mouth as if yelling. She is a pretty blue sea serpent with light blue accents that seem to echo Dvalin's design.

What’s better than throwing the Jade Chamber at an ancient sea monster? Throwing one at his wife too! Although we think that Osial and Beisht may have been on a break during the first altercation – why else wouldn’t she have come to his aid – they are together again in the Guyun Stone Forest. Along with Ninnguang’s teacups.

a 2D rendition of Zhongli from Genshin Impact. He has no face and wears a hood up, his hair swopped down covering where his eyes would be. He has on a white shirt but seems to have no sleeves on his shirt showcasing his gold hands with dark tanned arms that have golden tattoos on it. His arms are off to the side seeming to use an invisible power to hold a brown spiral ball in the middle in front of him. There is a golden square around him.

Zhongli’s second story quest focuses on his relationship with the big rock beast we all hate to fight, Azhdaha.

Watch on YouTube: Through the Eyes of a Dragon

Azhdaha, from Genshin Impact, a dragon from Liyue, Teyvat. He is a brown and gold lizard looking creature with glowing red eyes. He is crouching down looking menacingly at the camera.

Our season three Azhdaha episode explores this story quest in depth. Beware: Scary blue-haired children are afoot.

A 2D rendition of Azhdaha towering over a floating Zhongli in Genshin Impact. Azhdaha is brown and gold with giant horns off of his head. He squints down at Zhongli with black tunnel eyes. Zhongli glows as he floats in front of Zhongli, wearing a white sleeveless overcoat that showcases his pony tail and gold tattoo'd arms.

Thanks to a fellow traveler, you can rewatch the full story quest and all its rocky goodness.

A screenshot of the Chasm and Liyue in Genshin Impact. Dunyu Ruins, show in the top right and represented by a blue body of water with an island in the middle, is circled in white.

Bee talks about the broken star that may have formed both the Chasm and the Dunyu Ruins. You can hear more about the Chasm in our season two episode, along with other theories on how it was formed.

Genshin Impact's Paimon and a movie kamera. In front of her on the table is a blank postcard and a brown Kamerah her hands. Her eyes are closed and she is laughing. In front of her on the table is a blank postcard and a brown Kamera.

Here are some helpful links if you’re unfamiliar with the pop culture references mentioned during the episode.

Bee mentions The Odd Couple when comparing Zhongli and Venti’s relationship. The Odd Couple is a story about two very opposite men and was a hit TV show in the 1970s. It was based on Neil Simon’s play of the same name.

Genshin fanart of a young Zhongli by Olivia Chiong, aka olibabart. This is a close up of Zhongli's face. His mouth is slightly open as he wears a white hood up on his head. There is a lot of sad emotion in his eyes, almost a sad nostalgia.
