SEASON FOUR
Every episode our team provides travelers with visual and video aids to help better understand comparisons, learn more about topics, and follow what we’re discussing. While we strive to include links to official Genshin Impact resources, some may also be to third-party channels.
Below are some resources surrounding this episode about Duke Wriothesley of Meropide that may be helpful in understanding the talking points and lore better:

Wriothesley’s character demo video gives us a look into his fighting prowess. He takes on multiple opponents in the Pankration Ring, including some illegally altered Gardemeks. But with his mechanical gauntlets, he has no trouble winning the whole showdown.

In his character teaser video, we see Wriothesley’s empathy for children when he ensures the child of a convict isn’t aware of their father’s crimes or destination, foreshadowing what we later learn about his own childhood.

Wriothesley’s collected miscellany video sets up much of the lore around Meropide, even if we didn’t realize it at the time. From the ship to the Primordial Sea plug, we get a lot of goodies in that small window. And a lot of cake.

Along with the bombshell about how Wriothesley ended up in Meropide, his story quest includes the douchey Dougier and the Beret Society. Were you as surprised as Tif about how nonchalant Traveler and Paimon were about murder?

Wriothesley and his siblings thought they lucked out with their foster family. Then they were reminded this was Genshin, where orphans are abundant and traumatized. You can see him retell the story at the end of his story quest.

The mechanical gauntlets that Writothesley wears during combat are an invention of his own. Improving them every time he would fight in the underground pankration fights in order to continue winning. Once he was able to get better materials, they got even more impressive. At one point, they even earned the support of professionals hailing from the Fontaine Research Institute.

Feens mentions one of Wriothesley’s voice lines, in which he says he got his scars from fighting a sea monster. She wonders if that line had anything to do with the HoYoFair short made by animator KieruArt.

Most of Wriothesley’s scars are covered up, and all are a mystery (at least right now). We do think, however, that they probably came from the fight he had with his foster parents before he killed them. He ended up unconscious in the hospital, so we know it had to be pretty bad.

During the first part of the archon quest in Fontaine, we learn about a mysterious meter that has recently been spiking. It turns out that the meter measures the Primordial Seawater level in the surrounding area. If that were to get too high or released, it would spell disaster for the Fontainians. In an epic cutscene, we see Wriothesley freeze the busted plug before Neuvilette shows up to put a less temporary band-aid on the situation.

Feens mentions an artist who draws Wriothesley raising Sigewinne in current-day situation when he starts dating Neuvillette. Click here to view their TikTok and be sure to let Feens know if you like them as well!

Wriothesley’s soft spot for Melusines started when he was a child. It started with a Melusine who would give him soup when he was out on the streets. And we just know Sigewinne has him wrapped around her little finger…err…paw? Wriothesley often finds stickers that they’ve stuck on him, including the one of a Melusine and Wrio-Shark.

Wriothesley sure does have a big…ship.
As the secrets of Meropide started to reveal themselves to Writothesley, he quickly found out the prophecy was imminent. In order to help out as many as he could, he had a Remurian ship built in the depths of the Fortress. To bad in the end, he only saved like 5 people with it. J/K (not really though).
