Episode 132: Chongyun the Exorcist

SEASON SEVEN

Our team provides travelers with visual and video aids every episode to help them better understand comparisons, learn more about topics, and follow what we’re discussing. While we strive to include links to official Genshin Impact resources, some may also be to third-party channels.

Below are some resources surrounding this episode about Chongyun the Exorcist that may be helpful to understand the talking points and lore better:

Chongyun’s particular brand of ‘start-of-game-itis’ is centered around his abundance of yang energy. In case you are the only Genshin player that didn’t hear about all his yang.

A few previous episodes where we talk about Chongyun and his yang energy are Xingqiu and the Feiyun Commerce Guild (S1 E18), Enjou and the Plight of Enkanomiya (S2 E30), Shenhe (S3 E42), The Sunchildren of Enkanomiya (S4 E68), and Orobashi (S4 E73).

Raise your hand if you’ve done Xianyun’s story quest. Put your hand down, Feens! Cloud Retainer is most disappointed that you haven’t met Shuyu, another relative of Chongyun.

Don’t try to impress your idols, kids. That’s exactly what Chongyun did when he also drank the same drink Xiao tried. But unlike Xiao, Chongyun yanged out.

Whether you see their relationship as purely friendship or you ship them, there is no denying that Xingqiu and Chongyun are BFFs. We hardly ever see one without the other or at least hear them talking about one another.

A special branch of Chongyun’s hangout shows us just what happens when you make a spicy popsicle. And it’s FANTASTIC!

One of the events we chat about in this episode is the Waterborne Poetry Event. Along with some Oceanid lore drops, there are sweet moments between our OG Mondstadt and Liyue characters.

Early on in the story, when we were just starting to meet characters with unique looks and styles, Chongyun’s lizard-like eyes stood out. Especially when we learned about Enkanomiya and met Tsumi. Maybe there still is some connection there that just hasn’t been brought to the surface yet (thank Cyno for the dad-joke).

May we present… David Borealis! (AI art generated via an ethical algorithm for visualization purposes only and without profitability. TL;DR: just for funsies.)

Here are some helpful links if you’re unfamiliar with the IRL references we mentioned during the episode. Bee serenaded us with some Foreigner (Hot Blooded) and Mariah Carey (Vision of Love), and we talked about our two favorite Kevin Bacon movies – White Water Summer and Tremors.
