Tales of Teyvat, a Genshin Lore Podcast

Episode 73: Orobashi

SEASON FOUR

Every episode our team provides travelers with visual and video aids to help better understand comparisons, learn more about topics, and follow what we’re discussing. While we strive to include links to official Genshin Impact resources, some may also be to third-party channels.

Below are some resources surrounding this episode about Orobashi that may be helpful to understand the talking points and lore better:

A close up of Enjou and a sun shade from Genshin Impact. Enjou shows his masked and horned brown face with glowing red eyes and a red gemstone in the middle, where we can assume a possible forehead would be. The sunshade, on the right, is a mysterious blue shadow in the shape of a human. It has no hair.

Since much of Orobashi’s lore is intermingled with Enkanomiya and other quests, you might want to check out a few of our previous episodes to learn more.

Orobashi from Genshin Impact as a scientist. A cartoon white snake with a lab coat, stethoscope, and monocle. He wears a green vest, white collared shirt, and black tie. Around him are beakers and many tiny flying white dragons and pink dragons sitting. All little dragons have wings and seem to have a child like wonder. Orobashi holds a syringe filled with pink liquid and the book of Sun and Moon is behind him.

Thanks to Bee for forever making us picture Orobashi with lil snake arms and a white lab coat. Scientist Orobashi is going places!

A 2D rendering of Orobashi. His mouth is wide him as he seems to yell in anger with his teeth, shaded green, and tongue, shaded yellow, are clear and easy to see. Orobashi is shown as a smooth white snake with a green belly.

During the Inazuma Archon Quest, Teppei (all together… awe), tells us how Raiden Shogun personally went to Yashiori Island to slay Orobashi. We later see part of the fight in her story teaser.

The Oathsworn Eye catalst from Genshin Impact. It shows a pink cirlce attached to a light purple clam shell. the bottom of the circle has a smaller version of the clam shell and a two blue strings of waves come up and around to form a half circle. The top of the weapon has a purple roof, similar to the roofs of Inazuma shrines. Everything is connected by a black hoop.

The Oathsworn Eye four-star catalyst tells the story of how Orobashi became the deity of choice in Enkanomiya. It tells us how a child found him hiding in a cave and decided he was the best replacement for the Philips Light Bulb god.

An "Oil slick" in Enkanomiya. In shows a pink and green glow coming off of a stone wall. Ayaka, from Genshin Impact, looks at the glare. There is also a white arrow pointing the glare out on the wall.

Feens talks about a beautiful oil slick seen in different locations in Enkanomiya. After several failed attempts to figure out what she was talking about, we found a photo from reddit user ultranum1 showing the phenomenon only in evernight.

Four pieces of coral that represent a level up material in all forms. The top left is a gold coral, bottom left is a blue and white coral, top right is a thinner brown coral and bottom right is a thinner black coral.

The Coral Branch of a Distant Sea weapon ascension material found at the Court of Flowing Sand tells us about Orobashi’s look. It says he was fluorescent and covered in a variety of colored coral. A level-up of the material, Jeweled Branch of a Distant Sea, continues to tell us how he felt the coral that made up his body made him feel mighty and powerful beyond comprehension.

The Bloodbranch coral is blue and red. It resembles a blood vessel or an anatomical image of a heart.

Speaking of coral branches, Orobashi was able to use the jade coral branch (bloodbranch coral) that grew on its body to suppress the Bathysmal Vishaps, and now someone has to go down every few centuries and retrieve the coral as part of Watatsumi’s ritual to reinvigorate its soil.

A ball made of big thick brown roots that are covered in a green moss. There are some small green plants growing on the top of the root ball.

While discussing the importance of shrine maintenance, we mention our past episode that went in-depth into the Sacred Sakura Cleansing Ritual. It’s not a prerequisite, but it is a story that furthers the overall lore of Inazuma.

Mouun's Shrine on Watatsumi Island. There is a shrine arch covered in green moss and plants. Behind it is a stone stair case that leads to a broken building. All that can be seen of the building is the right wall with some wall angling off of it. It looks like a rombus. The sky is blue with some white fluffy clouds. There are bubbles in the air.

Back to the shrines… behind the larger Sangonomiya Shrine, you can find a broken-down building that once served as a shrine to the Yuna Clan’s Mouun. Most notably, Mouun was friends with a massive whale named Daikengyou, whose whale army joined Mouun to help the Watatsumi army invade Yashiori Island.

A stone pillar. The top looks like the roof of a house points coming off of the corners. The center of the house is open and shows a purple glow. There is a base underneath that leads into a triangle that holds the structure up. It is adorned with a purple and white rope.

All over Yashiori Island are stone wards called Narukami Pillars, which hold back the Tatarigami oozing from the god remains of Orobashi. Before Traveler arrived, some Orobashi fanatics broke these pillars to set his “will” free. Instead, they wreaked havoc on the people in the area.

A hot dog in a bun with ketchup and mustard on it. The hotdog has arms, legs, and the face of Nathan, an NPC from Inazuma with short brown hair. In one hand he holds a polearm.

Feens is SUS on Nathan. He introduces himself as a resident of Watatsumi Island, originating from Mondstadt. But, he’s really a hot dog. Err, I mean a Fatui. It was his idea to destroy the wards. So the SUS meter was on point.

The Mikaage Furnace located on Tatarasuna glowing purple. It looks like a stone pot floating in the middle of a rocky structure. Purple lightening emits off of it.

As we discuss how the Tatarigami was used to make the Mikage Furnace on Tatarasuna, we mention another past episode involving Scaramouche. Again, not a prerequisite for the Orobashi story, but a listen that wil help you put all the Inazuma threads together.

The Shade Chamber's Orobashi episode cover art. It shows an orange background with a traditional greek drawing showing a mans body with a snake's body instead of legs. Though it is a black shadow, you can tell it wears a toga and has a coral piece on its head. It leans over, eye wide, and looks at a scroll with a diamond on it.

Tif brings up some interesting lore our friends over at The Shade Chamber discussed in their Orobashi episode. Along with the connection to Alice, they have some interesting thoughts about our lizard friend. We highly recommend checking out the episode on YouTube.

Genshin Impact's Paimon and a movie kamera. In front of her on the table is a blank postcard and a brown Kamerah her hands. Her eyes are closed and she is laughing. In front of her on the table is a blank postcard and a brown Kamera.

Here are some helpful links if you’re unfamiliar with the pop culture references we mentioned during the episode. We first start out with a reference to the 1980’s hair metal band Whitesnake. Next we mention Pixar’s “Bao” – an emotional short. And the episode wouldn’t be complete without a Buffy reference.

Artist Spotlight

Genshin Impact fanart of Raiden Ei and Orobashi by Sebasitian. In a very light piece it shows Ei from behind, legs spread for stabilization and sowrd out to the side as her braid flies to the one side. She has a purple electro ring behind her as she braces for impact. In front of her, we can see a giant white snake with its mouth open and teeth out coming right at her. The snake comes through a hole it created in a stone building.
