Episode 112: Ochkanatlan

SEASON SIX

Our team provides travelers with visual and video aids every episode to help them better understand comparisons, learn more about topics, and follow what we’re discussing. While we strive to include links to official Genshin Impact resources, some may also be to third-party channels.

Below are some resources surrounding this episode about Ochkanatlan that may be helpful to understand the talking points and lore better:

View of Ochkanatlan from the Flower-Feather Clan

Ochkanatlan, also known as The Cinder City, sits on top of what was once the epicenter of the dragon civilization thousands of years ago. Now considered a deadly place to visit, it’s patrolled by the Flower-Feather Clan to make sure no one goes looking for the rumored treasure and gets unalived in the process. Sounds like a great place to visit, let’s go!

Mural depicting Xiuhcoatl, the Pyro Dragon of Natlan

Xiuhcoatl was the OG Pyro Dragon daddy that ruled Natlan back in the old days. As one of the Seven Sovereigns, he was fierce and one of the strongest lifeforms in Teyvat. He used one of his eyes to create the Golden Entreaty, a valuable artifact in the story.

View of the Tonatiuh above Ochkanatalan

Up above the peaks of Ochkanatlan is the Tonatiuh, also called the Skyserpent Ship. It was originally built by the dragons and later turned on its side by Och-Kan. It was meant to be an elevator from Chichen Uctokah up into space. Don’t forget to send over any recommendations on Space Elevator media to Feens!

The Unfinished Reverie Artifact Set

Our first Ochkanatlan episode was centered on the Unfinished Reverie Artifact Set (S5 E92). We discussed the Scarlet-Eyed Youth group and how they defeated Och-Kan after he went bonkers with power.

Kukulkan, the Sage of the Stolen Flame

Kukulkan, the Sage of the Stolen Flame, is a main character of the Ochkanatlan story. He was made by his big bro Xiuhcoatl, whom he later stepped in for to rule the dragon civilization of Natantea. Notably, he stole Phlogiston from the dragons and gave it to the humans to use.

Mural depicting Och-Kan

Kukulkan had a son named Och-Kan who ended up being a tyrant. Great parenting again in Teyvat. He was half-human and had a pretty bad time growing up, not that it excuses him becoming a tyrant. As he lost power, he split his mind and body, with his body becoming the Dragon of the City of Flowing Ash.

Mural of Xbalanque, the first Pyro Archon

Xbalanque, the first Pyro Archon, was given a crown by the Lord of the Night after unifying the tribes. He fought and defeated Xiuhcoatl for rulership of all Natlan. He was also BFFs with Och-Kan.

Ronova, the Ruler of Death

Ronova, the Ruler of Death, showed the new Archon the grim future of Natlan. To save his people, Xbalanque borrowed Ronova’s power to create the rules of the Ode of Resurrection and the Pilgrimage of the Return of the Sacred Flame.

Statue holding Ixlel, the ruler of Chichen Uctokh

Ixlel, Ix Uxul Tz’ib Bolon Ch’ule-L if you’re nasty, was once the ruler of Chichen Uctokah and the Ninth of the Thirteen Sovereign Lords. That is, until Och-Kan sealed her in the Old Core of Chu’ulel and hid her heart in different locations. Luckily, the Traveler gathers up the pieces of her heart and frees her soul from imprisonment.

Ochkanatlan adventurer and guide, Bona

Bona is beautiful. And dead. But she might not know that. She lived hundreds of years ago and died protecting the last piece of Pyrophosphorite, a device that can open secrets on the Tonatiuh, from Kukulkan. Why was she there? She followed her father’s footsteps and went searching for a device said to repel the Abyss.

Little One, our Tepetlisaurus friend

Let’s not forget why we head into Ochkanatlan in the first place, for Little One – our little Tepetlisaurus buddy. We’re told by the new Manqu that Little One has the flame lord’s blessing, which is just too powerful for today’s Saurians and could make them go crazy or die. Luckily, it can be removed, but we need some relics first.

Manqu from the beginning of the Little One quest line

New Manqu, not to be confused with Old Manqu from the Scarlet-Eyed Youth group, is the one who explains to us what needs to be done to save our Little One. But could New Manqu be someone else? Bee thinks so! He thinks it’s Kukulkan in disguise to get us over to Ochkanatlan.

Cocouik, an adorable dragonspirit housing the mind of Och-Kan

When Och-Kan’s mind and body split, his mind was transported into Cocouik. He is a small dragonspirit we meet with Bona. As we gather the items needed to progress through the story, Cocouik gets more and more restored.

Glasses left behind from Bona

After you finish the full quest, you can go back up to the Tonatiuh and find Bona’s glasses. When you interact with her glasses, you’ll unlock the third part of her Adventurer’s Notes that tells us her plan to stand against Kukulkan.

Feens tells us that once you complete the three parts of the Woven Scroll Portals in the Master’s of the Night Winds area, you can take an elevator up to a hidden room for one last treasure. But that’s not all you get up there, you also get a view of the cave where the fell dragon remains.

Saurian egg incubating in Little One's Resting Area

Are you incubating an egg over in Little One’s Resting Area? Has your egg hatched? Don’t know what we’re talking about? It’s the Lone Isle Named Night world quest that is started on the Isle of Tozoz. Once you finish the quest, the egg will be in Little One’s Resting Area until you finish all the Little One quests. Then the egg will hatch, and you get your own Tepetlisaurus for your Serenitea Pot.

Genshin Impact's Paimon and a kamera

Here are some helpful links if you’re unfamiliar with the pop culture references we mentioned during the episode. Feens mentioned her favorite Fruits Basket scene (she’s got a thing for chalk), her new deep-dive of the Space Elevator, Papa from Stranger Things, and Spike’s creepy sex bot on Buffy. Don’t forget to check to see if you’re having a stroke if you smell burnt toast or randomly hear Welcome to the Jungle in your living room.
